Specialty Testing & Additional Services
DNA / Genetic Testing Package
Some patients with hypermobility, HSD, hEDS, or EDS may benefit from genetic testing or specialty testing as part of their care. Testing is not the starting point for every patient and is not ordered automatically.
Before genetic or specialty testing is ordered, Dr. Kerri may review personal and family history, hypermobility history, prior diagnoses or suspected diagnoses, Beighton score or hypermobility findings, connective-tissue features, prior labs or imaging if available, patient goals, expectations for testing, and whether genetic counseling or specialist referral may be appropriate.
For patients being evaluated for hEDS, Dr. Kerri may use the hEDS Diagnostic Criteria Worksheet as part of the clinical review process. Genetic testing may help evaluate for certain heritable connective-tissue disorders or related conditions, but genetic testing does not currently confirm hEDS in most patients. A negative genetic test does not necessarily rule out hEDS or hypermobility-related illness.
Current lab options, pricing, insurance policies, and cash-pay rates can change. Any current details will be reviewed before testing is ordered.

After Results
Once results are available, patients may be encouraged to meet with a genetic counselor when appropriate, especially if the testing laboratory offers genetic counseling or if results are complex. Dr. Kerri can then review the results with the patient and discuss how the information may fit into the broader care picture.
Results may help guide care direction, referrals, additional evaluation, patient education, family-history considerations, and next steps within the ZIP Care System™.
